No WoW Token or character boosts planned for WoW Forever
- No plans for a WoW Token or a character boost
- Clay Stone: the journey is the game
- Future updates stay on Azeroth and fill in unused zones
- Everyone starts at level 1 when Forever launches
Don't expect to buy your way to 60 in WoW Forever. Clay Stone, Associate Production Director, said in an interview with content creator Destin at BlizzCon that there are no plans for anything like a WoW Token or a boost. Wowhead and Warcraft Tavern both reported the interview on Sept 14.
His reasoning is the idea Blizzard keeps coming back to for Forever: the journey is the game. The endgame matters, but getting there is meant to be the point, and paying to skip it works against that.
"No plans" isn't a promise for all time, and Blizzard hasn't said whether that could change later. At launch on Nov 4, 2026, everyone starts at level 1.
The interview also covered where Forever goes next. The team says it is growing sideways, not upward: for the foreseeable future it stays on Azeroth, filling in zones that were never finished instead of heading through the Dark Portal. Building the Season of Discovery roadmap taught them how to plan that long term.
Stone and Lead Software Engineer Nora Mills also laid out the beta: it opens at level 20, moves to 30 later and stays at 30 until it ends.
