Forever hides item stats until someone on your server loots it

In short
  • You don't see an item's stats until it drops on your server
  • No Dungeon Journal, so raid bosses stay a surprise
  • Aggrend expects a 'Wild West' first week

Forever is trying to take some of the mystery back from datamining. Josh Greenfield told MMORPG.com at BlizzCon: "You will not see an item's stats until it drops for you, until it drops for someone on your server." Warcraft Tavern and Wowhead both reported the interview.

In Classic, every item's stats were known years before most players saw them, so best-in-slot lists existed on day one. In Forever, the numbers on a new item stay hidden until somebody actually loots it. Greenfield expects the first week to be "the Wild West" of players getting items and posting them online.

The same idea applies to raids. There will be no Dungeon Journal, so boss abilities are not listed in-game before you meet them, and the team plans to keep encounters under wraps until players pull them. Blizzard also talked about hiding secrets around the world.

It fits Forever's other loot changes. Itemization is being reworked to break the old Classic gear meta, so there is no existing best-in-slot list to fall back on either.
